You can use FastTrack Automation Studio to
repackage setup programs that are not
unreliable before-and-after snapshots that
bypass the installer logic to build deployable
MSI files.
The MSI edition of FastTrack is intended
only for building MSI packages.
Note: The Enterprise and Platinum editions of
FastTrack offer more choices for deployment
- see chart below.
If all you need to do is repackage an exe based set up into MSI
format, you do not need to write a script yourself. Simply select
the "EXE to MSI" icon in the FastTrack editor, enter the
unattended switches for the setup exe file and you have an MSI
file. If you do not know the unattended switches for the setup exe
file, use Google to find them. Walk through the wizard and you
have an MSI file in a few minutes.
If your needs are more advanced than a simple repackage, you can
write your own custom script with the help of FastTrack’s 1,100+
commands and then compile it into MSI format with the touch of a
button.
When you write your own script, you have many additional options.
For example, you can embed credentials into the MSI package itself
or embed a number of other packages.
If you require the ability to build and deploy scheduled tasks or
Platinum editions of FastTrack which offer more functionality.
